By the time I became an instructor, I had taken hundreds of test and written almost as many papers, and occasionally handed in projects like a diorama or model. In comparing a test and a model, it is harder to determine with a test whether a student can apply their knowledge. Tests tend to measure knowledge, not application of knowledge.
What other kinds of assessment can I choose, for students in an online course? How can I integrate them into a course so that they are also a learning activity? This site is a personal reflection of my work in “Assessment in E-Learning,” as part a University of Wisconsin-Stout graduate certification program, E-Learning for Educators.
